Today is my forty-ninth birthday, which is the exact age my mother was when she died. It’s always been something of a milestone to stay alive at least as long as my mother; with our family history that’s not easy.

I’m finally settling in with the job and figuring stuff out; what I refer to as the “bullshit” learning curve is pretty much over. That’s the learning curve where you have to learn the network layout, the idiosyncrasies of your servers, password crap and politics. Oh, and the copier code. I’m still feeling some malcontent about getting whacked back a level but what goes around comes around and I really am pretty patient.

I’m beginning to wonder if I should do anything about the knee as it has been paining me more and more these days. This morning I was on the stairmaster and I started out with a lot of pain. After riding it out for about ten minutes it occurred to me that it was actually feeling a lot better; perhaps exercise was what it needed.

The thing about getting it looked at is that if it needs surgery I’m screwed because it will curtail my exercise routine; no one wants to be around when that happens. The other thing I am afraid of is that the knee won’t be “almost good as new”; if I am going to have surgery I want the juice to be worth the squeeze.

I decided to start a second blog because I wanted to experiment with writing in a different sort way. My first blog has morphed into more of a collection of little stories, but I think that it was probably because it emerged from an English project; those need to be presentable. This blog will probably not be very presentable!

Posts on this blog will be briefer and more in keeping with a stream-of-consciousness style of writing. My hope is that I will some day have enough fodder for a book or collection of short stories. Enjoy!
